Printing our Projects
This page deals with the best way to print our projects and some suggestions in case you have difficulties.

We eliminated all graphics because you may wish to print it and see the instruction as you print patterns.

1. CLICK ON THE PATTERN NAME TO SEE THE PATTERN! Internet Explorer and Mozilla based browsers display large images in a 'fit window' mode by default so the patterns may be small and unreadable. If you do not know how to make them appear full size see the detailed instructions below.

2. YOU MAY PRINT THE PATTERNS WHEN THEY APPEAR. Click on your printer icon or use the "File...Print" function on your web browser... All patterns easily fit on standard 8-1/2" x 11" paper and all printers that can handle picture or graphic files can print them. Be sure to set your margins as small as possible and delete any header or footer- see Step 3.
Printer buffer capacity and the print quality settings will affect the speed at which patterns print. We recommend 'Quick Print', 'Econo-Print', 'Draft Quality' or whatever your printer designates as the lowest setting. Experiment and find the best compromise between speed and quality.

3. FOR BEST RESULTS: Go to "File"..."Page Setup" (might also be called Print Set-up) on your internet browser and set the margins as small as possible, delete or blank any header or footer options and if your printer box has a Properties or Options tab, be sure your printer is set to 100%, "PRINT TO SCALE" or "ACTUAL SIZE" and not "FILL PAGE" or "BEST FIT" or similar.
Detailed instructions for Internet Explorer and Mozilla based browsers are below and others, like Opera, work in a similar fashion.

4. YOU MAY ALSO SAVE THE PATTERNS WHEN THEY APPEAR: Right mouse button click on the FULL SIZE PATTERN and select"Save Picture or Image As..." and save the pattern to a file to print later. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND opening patterns with your web browser to print them. Some art programs will not display the patterns properly or will resize them when opened.

5. USE THE "BACK" ARROW ON YOUR BROWSER TO RETURN FROM THE PATTERN TO THE WEB PAGE

NOTE: The most common difficulty is patterns not printing or cut off because the default page margin settings of your internet browser are too large for the pattern to fit on the printed page. See below to change the margins.

Detailed Instructions for Printing Patterns

Internet Explorer may show the patterns in a 'Fit Window' mode so patterns may display too small to read and print actual size. Click the 'Full Size' button (icon) that appears on the screen (It is a square with outward pointing blue arrows.) and the patterns change to actual size Then:
1. Go to 'File...Page Setup' at the top left of the browser window. A box called 'Page Setup' will appear.
2. Make sure 'Protrait' is selected
3. Make sure all the margins are set as small as possible (0.3 at top and sides and 0.5 at bottom are ideal, but 0.5 all around is fine for Internet Explorer) and make sure the Header & Footer entries are blank.
4. Print...if there are any problems, make sure your printer properties are set to "PRINT TO SCALE", 100% or "ACTUAL SIZE" and not "FILL PAGE" or "BEST FIT" if you have that option!

Netscape, Mozilla & Firefox may show the patterns in a 'Fit Window' mode by default so patterns may display too small to read and print actual size. If the mouse cursor is a circle with a plus sign in it, click on the pattern and it will appear full size. Then:
1. Go to 'File...Page Setup' at the top left of the browser window. A box with two tabs called 'Page Setup' will appear.
2. On the 'Format & Options' tab make sure 'Protrait' is selected and make sure 'Scale 100%' is selected by unselecting 'Shrink to fit page width'
3. On the Margins & Header/Footer tab make sure all the margins are set as small as possible (at 0.3 at top and sides and 0.5 at bottom are ideal) and make all the Header & Footer, Left, Center, Right entries say --blank-- in the drop down menus.
4. Print...if there are any problems, make sure your printer properties are set to "PRINT TO SCALE", 100% or "ACTUAL SIZE" and not "FILL PAGE" or "BEST FIT" if you have that option!

Here are solutions to some rare issues!

Patterns do not print: See details above to reduce the margins and eliminate header, footer, etc.
Patterns print blank in a Mozilla based browser: See details above to reduce the margins and eliminate header, footer, etc.
Patterns printing too large or small: Be sure your printer is set to "PRINT TO SCALE", 100% or "ACTUAL SIZE" and not "FILL PAGE" or "BEST FIT" if you have that option!
Web TV: Depending upon the settings, some WebTV browsers may show the patterns as all black, but they will print out correctly
Easy way with MS Internet Explorer: Right click on pattern name and select "Print Target" - It will print the pattern without opening it in your browser window.

If you still have problems ask Jim and be specific as to what the problem is and what browser and printer you are using.
We can't be much help if you just say "The patterns don't print."
