Here's an example of a typical installation (If there is such a thing). Very basic 8' x 12' pond, simple filtration, stream and falls, one end for plants, one deep enough to winter fish and a basic pond and land planting to get the customer started. Water gardens may be simpler or much more complex, but this type of setup is a great way to get a proud 'new- ponderer' started and they can modify from here. What a difference in the landscape!

This small pond was used to clean up an area beside the driveway. It's a much nicer "welcome home" now! The blue in the water prevents algae growth. (I don't care for it, but some do.)

Big yard, big pond, big stream and 4000 gallon per hour pump. I'd rather have this than a swimming pool! As long as the fish don't mind an occasional visitor.

Here is a waterfalls upgrade where a trickling falls that kept the rocks beneath it green with algae was reassembled (along with a boost in pump power) to create a cleaner looking falls with a better looking flow for the size of the pond.

Catastrophe to beautiful! The sides of this homeowner installed pond caved in during a week of heavy rain. The picture at left shows how we blocked in the sides to stabilize them so the original liner would still fit the hole. The photo at right is the refinished pond. What a difference!
Pond Build Tip: This can happen when a backhoe or excavator digs the hole too close to the finish edges of the pond. The machine disturbs and stresses the soil, the heavy stones are stacked at the edge and a heavy rain turns the stressed and disturbed soil into mud so the stones and edges collapse.

We prefer a pond in the backyard so it can be a private sanctuary, but here's two nice ponds in front yards. The pond at left offers a view towards the living room window. From inside the house, the pond at right is hidden by the plantings, but the view is spectacular from the driveway and walk!

Here's two ponds in the same neighborhood that show very contrasting styles. One features the rugged look of stone with minimal pond plantings while the other is softened by the lush plantings.

Before and after pictures show how a small water feature can add interest and remove the starkness from a small courtyard area.

Here's a small pond that makes a very effective border between lawn and woods. What a difference a between the two photos!

This is another before and after that shows how a small pond can transform an unused corner of a yard. The stream is a bit straighter than I care for, but its size and layout were very restricted by the area.

This pond is to be built about 18" above grade and the wetland filter will have to be almost 3' above grade to gain heoght for the falls. You can see the base blocks for the pond in the first photo, the start of the wetland in the second and the last two offer a finished view after the loam for the planting berms has been added. A wall still has to built along the front edge of the pond for seating.
