Money Saving Tip: Our individual Print-a-Projects are excellent if you are doing a project or two, but instead of buying multiple projects, you can get our ENTIRE PATTERN COLLECTION plus valuable tips and information on our Pattern Bin CD!

Walnut Clock

Jim C. sent this picture of his unusual wall clock design made of Walnut. The wood is from a diseased tree that was cut down in his backyard and he has saved a lot more for future projects.
Wood Tip: If you are drying your own logs, covering the end with wax (or one of the newer green Wood Sealers or emulsions) will slow drying help prevent splitting! There are other drying tips available if you search the web, but this is an old standard that really works!

scroll saw patternsscroll saw patterns

A 12 year old boy made these two fretwork / scroll saw projects as gifts for his grandmother. The patterns are from our Print-a-Project Scroll Saw Scenes ... He left out a few of the finer detail cutting and some of the cuts brok off, but still a good job for a young scroller and I am sure that grandma appreciated both the thought and effort!
Scrolling Tip: When I get a new package of scroll saw blades, I dip the top ends in a dab of red paint. This way I can quickly spot the top of the blade for mounting even if the blade has very fine teeth. There's plenty more scroll tips on our Scroll Bin CD (plus ALL of our scroll saw patterns).

Basket
This decorative basket by Tom V. is very unusual and quite striking. The combination of woods and stylized design is excellent and it becomes more of a piece of art than just a basket!

Here's a beautifully done coffee table with storage by John Hobbs, a member of the Hawksbury Woodcraft Co-op in Sydney, Australia. Excellent joinery, simplicity of design and quite a lovely piece that John should be proud of.
Stop Thief
Here's one of our "Print-a-Projects" modified a bit and used as part of a neighborhood "Stop Thief" program. Thanks Carol, good job.
Finishing Tip: Again, we hate detail painting so when a project calls for lettering, we prefer to cut the letters from thin stock ( hardwood such as maple for outdoors - birch plywood is excellent for indoors), spray paint them and then glue them in place...Much easier! There's plenty of finishing tips plus ALL of our woodcraft patterns on the Pattern Bin CD
Nice Car     A beautiful Mahogany car by Glenn S. of Orange CA. Nice work and a beautiful finishing job (especially the spoked wheels)!

Allen C. sent us these photos made from our old blueprint patterns. We have since altered the designs to suit our print-on-your-computer format, but they are still available!

Finishing Tip -We dislike painting fine detail lines so we use a black permanent ink marker, such as a Sharpie when detailing yard art.  It's easy to draw those fine lines and easier than a brush to touch up later! You can sample individual Holiday Yard Art designs at the Project Shop or enjoy ALL of our Holiday Yard Art on our Holiday Yard Art & Decorations CD

Other Assortments - FAQ's
Chessboard     Beautiful Chessboard of Mahogany and Pine. Maker says he will send a pic of the pieces when they are done, but he has to learn to use his new lathe first. I can hardly wait to see them!

Mirror and Tissue Box

Wall mirror and tissue box with wallpaper pasted in routed grooves to match the room walls. Great Idea and it would be easy to change the paper to match a new decor and the techniques could also be used on other accessories!
Heron    This attractive Heron was made by combining one of our patterns with a layering technique from another of our pattern packs. Nice job Carol and glad to see that you aren't afraid to experiment with our designs and make them more personal!
LouisaLouisa Here's a couple of pictures from Louisa who is just getting started in woodcraft and was nervous that people wouldn't want to look at her creations. They look great great so keep up the good work and don't be so concerned about what other people think!
Finishing Tip: She was experimenting with our 'shaded edge' technique in the top picure. It's sometimes posted on our Woodcraft Whatnot page, but is always in the Pattern Bin CD along with ALL of our woodcraft patterns!
Lamp and Sculpture    Freeform Lamps & unusual Sculpture cut from 6 x 6 hemlock and has a blowtorch, brush and clearcoat finish (The contributor says our Woodcraft Whatnot page introduced him to the technique the last time we posted it).
Gun Cabinet    Excellent gun cabinet submitted without a name. It's very attractive, has plenty of drawers for small storage and shows a lot of attention to detailing and finishing and the maker should be very proud of his or her efforts.

Wren HouseBirdhouse

New woodworkers Richard and Carolyn sent us these two photos of birdhouses made with our "Quick & Easy Birdhouse" print-a-projects. Nice job and I am sure they birds will love them. The key to our Q & E Birdhouses is inexpensive materials, flexibility of design and fun!
Birdhouse Tip: Birds will find their home more suitable if the insides are rough fo easy climbing...Use rough sided lumber inside or use a gough or chisel to rough out horizontal grooves so baby birds can climb to the exit hole.
Basket     G.C. sent this sampling of his scroll saw work. If you enjoy this type of project, check out our scroll saw scenes!

Mirrors     Bill W sent this picture of two of his beautiful hand mirrors. The foreground mirror is Purpleheart, the other is Cherry with Maple and Walnut inlay. Beautiful workmanship - What a great gift item and some excellent craftsmanship.

BM at aol.com says: I am new to computers, but you were right... patterns were easy to print and use...thanks.

Beautiful results
Mike A. was told by his wife to throw that junk away, but he loves to rebuild lost causes and has been doing it for 15 years. The first two photos are the 'junk', the last is the beautiful result!
Money Saving Tip: If you salvage wood (especially from pallets and crates) you may find that fighting with nails can split or destroy the wood. Sometimes it's easier and causes less damage if you use a nail set or larger nail to drive the nails through the wood rather than pull them out!
Nice Bowl    Here's a very attractive bowl (made from a birch in the yard) submitted by Ian. Nicely done!
Chruch Bench
Bench
Danny sent these pictures of two beautiful benches. The decorative painting adds a nice touch!

Humming Bird
John M of Nova Scotia sent these nice pictures of his intarsia work. He makes them for gifts for his wife and friends. Very nice John!
Fretwork     Harvey says..."I have been scroll sawing for about 12 years. I am 67 and took it up because my wife kept saying I did not have enough patience. The apostle and roman cathedral are my best. I use Alaska birch and some dark woods for accent."
Scrolling Tip: More comfortable scrolling...I find that my back can no longer take an afternoon of leaning over a scroll saw, but if I place a piece of 2 x 4 or similar under the rear legs of my scroll stand to tip the table towards me, it minimizes leaning over the table and is easier on my back! Of course, you must be careful not to tip the stand so much that it becomes unstable. There's plenty more scroll tips on our Scroll Bin CD (plus ALL of our scroll saw patterns).
