We can all learn and get ideas by looking at pictures of other people's ponds so I have included one of my current favorites to get things started. (It's a new pond and not yet planted)

Here is a nice looking pond installed by Steve, in Spokane, WA. I bet he spends a lot of time on the bench enjoying his handiwork and the sights and sounds of a backyard water garden!

This pond (installed 3 years ago) has a PVC liner and a pair of Koi. Frank said:"Your site has given me some splendid ideas. I live in the Midwest USA and the winters can be pretty harsh"

Something different...This inventive ponderer placed a bell jar in the pond so the fish can watch the entire back yard! It requires frequent cleaning, but what an unusual focal point!

Paul's pond is way up north in Berlin, NH where his fish must survive very long and extremely cold winters. Good job Paul and nice use of accessories like the bridge, arbor, statuary, etc.

Here is a nice pond that has grown in nicely. It was created by a professional water garden installer and landscaper in Canada. Very nice work!

Regan says: "We had fun in the building process and thank you guys for a lot of good tips and the help. It took the wife and I nearly 3 weeks to complete but are now enjoying it greatly."

G Ryan sent in this pic of his backyard Koi pond. It's a nice location with both sun and shade and an attractive patio with bench next to the pond.

This is a very nice homeowner installed pond in New Hampshire that has stone planters, walls and walkway matching coping stones and falls. Well done, Frank! |
Clean Pond Tip - Songbirds love ponds as a source of fresh water and a place to bathe and they should be welcome guests, but an all too common mistake is placing bird feeders next to your pond.Feeders attract and concentrates the bird population into a small area so the droppings become unsightly on the pond edges and a source of pollution in the pond. The spilled seeds and empty husks are also an unsightly nuisance and I have seen them clog small pumps and filters. An additional problem is that the feeders may also attract mice, rats and chipmunks that could nest around the pond and have been known to chew holes in liner edges and stream liners while nesting and searching for food. Moving feeders to at least ten or fifteen feet away from the pond can make a big difference! You can learn more about this and other water quality issues on our Pond Place CD
